This time of year, it will be hot; it will be humid.
Deano you just described the trip I just took over the last few months! I returned about a week and a half ago!
I started in Krabi, but now isn't a good time to go over there as it is low season and everyone was leaving when I was leaving. They were closing up a lot of the places for the summer and will reopen them in October (Around Krabi, Ao Nang, Ton Sai Beach, Railey Beach). Koh Phi Phi is probably still alive and kicking but it was so damn expensive there. I didn't really like it other than the scenery.
Anyway, Koh Phangan is the PERFECT place to start. That place will have a special place in my heart for the rest of my life. Stay on Hat Rin beach on the Sunrise beach. I stayed in a fairly nice room called "SK House" which is upstairs from the 7-11 store. You won't miss it, I promise it's easy to find, just look for the 7-11 store. I paid 400 baht a night for my room. I had a fan and a bathroom with hot water. I would definitely recommend that place. Be careful as they change the rates of the room the closer to the full moon party you get. All the prices go up!!! Take the Lampraya high speed ferry to Koh Tao after the full moon party and do some scuba diving. From there back to Bangkok would be my recommendation. I'd say skip Krabi and Phuket altogether this time of year.
Anyway, Siem Riep Cambodia was incredible, but try to avoid going direct from Bangkok to Siem Reap because that road isn't paved and it is just a god-awful ride. There is no good way to get there direct from Bangkok other than to fly. Take the bus to Sihanoukville Cambodia and spend a few days there. Your going to have paved roads from there up to Siem Riep. It's a longer trip distance wise but an easier journey on your back and health overall. I didn't spend a lot of time in Phnom Pehn but it was still a fun town. The club that gets packed there is called "Heart of Darkness" and it was a cool club. Stay down near the river and not in that shitty ass hotel the bus drops you off at. I promise you it's worth the extra $$.
Vietnam was cool I guess, not my favorite place but you should go to say you went. They have some beautiful sights there.
LAOS WAS THE BEST PLACE I HAVE EVER BEEN IN MY LIFE!!!!
Make your way to Vang Vieng and you will never regret it. It's about 3 hours north of Vientienne. Rent a scooter for $4 a day, then go explore a cave. Find your way to the "Blue Lagoon" and swim there for a day, spend the next couple of days tubing down the rivers and jumping off rope swings. This was my favorite place in all of Southeast Asia. It is so laid back and relaxing. -snip- Anyway, I did this trip and it was the greatest experience in my life. I hope you find yours to be the same.
