Hi, I'm hoping to go to Oz for a year on a Working Holiday Visa. I understand that I need to set up an Australian bank account. Can anyone tell me the best one to go with as I've heard alot charge a fee every month. I am hoping to use my Nationwide Flex account to draw money out for 'holiday' purposes, and just use the Australian one for any employers to pay into. Thanks
hi emma, they all charge a monthly fee. i went with westpac for $5 per month and was very quick and easy to open. just take passport to branch and apply straight away. you'll need to give an address on your application. i also use my nationwide acount, debit card paymets need to be put through as credit card though when you're asked in shops. hope this helps, pete
The only one I know of which doesn't charge a fee a month is an Ezybank account (which has a lot of limitations to be monthly fee free) or a web based one which doesn't have any card for withdrawals. I think all the banks are about the same as each other, but Commonwealth Bank or West Pac would be the ones to look at seeing they have so many branches all over the place. I think they both have the same price per month with same free withdrawals (as long as you withdraw from the same banks ATM).
try commonwealth bank - im with them for $4 a month and no other fees which is good! got net banking as well which is easy to use.
Its only just under 2 quid a month em, surely you can afford that and anyway i had mine opened for a bout 4 months before putting any money in and then they just took 4 months fees so they wont charge ya or send ya bills if ya not got money in there. Open it when ya get here and if ya dont need it just shut it.

I used the westpac one, which like 'worldwide G' said it cost $5 a month. What i remember, but dont quote me on it !!! that you have to set your bank account up within so many weeks, think it was 12 weeks.... else it makes it harder on ID points to set the account up.
