guiny has indicated that this thread is about England

Hello! I will be travelling to London by my own for two days and one night. I am worried about being alone in a big city like London. Which areas of London I should avoid? Where and when London is dangerous, dodge and not advisable for tourists, specially a lonely girl? Which underground stations I should avoid? On the first day I plan to take a sightseeing bus around the city and on the second day, I will have to do my own way around - as the tickets for the sightseeing bus is rather expensive for buying for two consecutive days. Which places I should go for a meal and which places I should not go for a meal? I am looking forward for advice and suggestions. Thanks!

hi audry,

Dont worry too much about safety in London. All the places you would be visiting as a tourist are perfectly safe, so no need to worry. I took my grandparents once on the bus tour around the city and it will take you to the typical places that are a must. London is full of tourists, so you wont feel lonely in that sense!

For the second day, well, it depends what are you interested in or in how much you manage to see in the first day!! The chances are you wont be able to do the whole bus route properly (it is a lot for a day!!), so you could go back to what you had left via the underground or local buses (I prefer the buses). But you could visit a market (Camdem or Portobello), or go to the Greenwich area, possibilities are endless!

The only thing you need to make sure is the area where your hotel/hostel is. Make sure is within zone 1 and you'll be fine (all tourist places are located in zone 1/2 anyway)

If you need more specific help, dont hesitate to ask or email. I have been living in and out of London for a while, so i might be able to help.

And have fun!!

Thank you! My hotel will be quite near Queensway Underground. Is it a good area? By the way, is White City Underground a good area too?

I saw in your profile that you live in Sao Paulo. London is most likely to be a lot safer than Sao Paulo. The tourist zones are well protected and policed so besides "petty" crime such as pickpocketing, there is little else to worry about. The "bad" parts like S.E London (so it seems this year) are a long way from you.

Keep your common sense and you will be fine. The metro stops are insignificant, no better or worse than any other.

Queensway is great!
You are opposite Hyde Park/Kensington Gardens which is a great and highly central park. Beautiful!

At Queensway there are lots of different restaurants. I like the Chinese ones!
The atmosphere is very lively!

White City is also on the Central line but not a touristy area.

Between Queensway and White City: I would stick to Queensway!

Thank you again! I will stay in Queensway. I have already been there before but with my boyfriend a long time ago. This time I am more concerned because I will be by myself but I also like the area. I asked about White City because I booked a guided visited to BBC Central Studios. The tour starts at 10h00 so I should be there around 9h50. I was informed the Studios are opposite to the Underground Station and pretty easy to find. As I have never been to that side of the city I was wondering if it is a safe neighbourhood.
