Barcelona (El Prat) Airport at Night

I will be going to Barcelona for the first time in July. My flight arrives at the regular airport around 10:30 at night. I figure by the time I get out of the airport it will be passed 11pm, and I was wondering what to do. My options are:

1) Sleep at the airport, and save one night's accommodation. How safe is this airport?

2) Head to my planned hostel downtown (I believe it's open late), and pay for this night. Is this a good idea? travelling via the transit system at night, and then walking around to find some place...?

3) Pay the extra money, and spend the night in a hotel near the airport. This would be the simplest, as it would probably provide a shuttle service from the airport.

Any comments?

Thanks!

Last train from the airport to the city centre leaves at 22.49. I don't think you'd have enough time to pick up your luggage and get to the airport's train station.
There is a service of buses that connects the airport and Pla├ža Catalunya, but I haven't been able to find between what times it runs.
I guess that if you wanna make it to the city centre at that time you'ldd need to take a taxi, unless these buses are running. I'll try to find it and post it here. The taxi would cost you like 22 or 24 euros, so it's not what i'd call cheap.

The airport is safe enough I'd say. I've never had any problems there

Hmmm...

Wouldn't a bus be a greater hassle than the train? Maybe the expensive taxi option is still better than spending money on an airport hotel.

What would you guys do, assuming you don't speak Spanish and it is 11:13pm?

At that time of night l would go with the taxi if you can afford it? Have you checked with your hostel they may do airport pickups (one that l stayed at in New Zeland did thats why l suggest it?).

Personally l like my creature comforts -so l would try to make it to my hostel/hotel so that l could sleep well!

Security may try to move you on out of the arrival area - is that something you have given thought to?

Let us know what you decide!

Thanks Purdy and everyone else!

The hostel is open 24 hours, but it does not provide an airport pickup. I forgot two mention that I will be traveling with another person. I guess the 25 EUR taxi ride + 2X hostel room cost would be less than the 80-90 EUR hotel + 2X train ticket. I guess I will see how I feel closer to the deadline!

Cheers all!
