collins810 has indicated that this thread is about Canada

Myself and 5 friends want to travel from vancouver to Calgary via kenowa and banff.

Does anybody know the best way to do this? Would train be a good way??

Trains here are a real nice way to travel, but real expensive. Flying is cheap, but then you miss all the cool mountain stuff in between Van and Calgary. Your best bet is probably just to either rent a car or take the greyhound bus!

If you can I would suggest renting a car as well. There are some really interesting things to see on that route and with a car you can take your time and stop where you like. Keep in mind in MOST parts of Canada you have to be 25 to rent a car however. Train is nice, but as mentioned, expensive.

If you decide on a form of Travel I'm happy to provide some more information, there are lots of great places to see on the way.

Yeah, trains here are tragically expensive. A rental car would be the best, if you could manage the option of picking up and dropping off in different locations - which is sometimes not an option given or costs an extra amount.

Greyhound is probably the most affordable and flexible option. You can get a pass where you can take multiple stops (flexipass or something like that) or just straight up here-to-here tickets. Buy them at least two weeks in advance for the best price.

The Greyhound in Canada is way different than in the states, not as many people and not as stressful.

Or maybe you can mix Greyhound/Flying depending on what your needs are.

We would ideally like to travel by renting a car but as we are only 19 I don't think that will be an option?

Yes trains too seem expensive. Looks like its bus, its one hell of a bus trip though.

It is indeed, I've done most of that trip by bus and it's a LONG ride. It's not bad if you are with some friends and patient people. But just be aware of what you are getting yourself into. What time of year are you going?

If you break the trip up (which it sounds like you are, with the stops in Kelowna and Banff) it's really not so bad on the Greyhounds. The busses are comfortable enough and there is some beautiful scenery. I regularily take the Greyhound between Kamloops and Calgary, and while it isn't necessarily fun, it certainly is tolerable.

We're arriving in Vancouver on the 6th of june, heading off to Calgary on the 7th of June.

I looked up the greyhound website and got a quote of $110 for the bus from Vancouver to Calgary. Can you break the journey up into 3 or 4 days. Does anybody know how flexible this ticket is?

The tickets are not flexible. You will need to buy point to point tickets - so you will purchase a ticket from Vancouver to Kelowna, and then another ticket from Kelowna to Calgary - or however you want to split up the trip. It's not too bad, but it'll probably come out to more than the $110 direct.

You can buy point to point tickets but this Discovery Pass is an option as well. You can buy them for 7 days, 15 days, etc. This is a flexible ticket, but I would phone for more information.
