With that much you should be able to travel around Asia, if you avoid the expensive places, for over a year easily. In Europe you can go through money a lot faster if you are not careful. With that much, if you don't want to be gone for a huge amount of time, you should consider doing both continents and throw in a few middle eastern countries along the way.

i suggest you to visit Asia. With 18000 dollar, you can stay longer,go to many places, and learn about the Asian cultures. Canadian dollar is very expensive in Asia. In Europe,Euro is more expensive then dollar. So maybe after Asia, you can start to keep money for Europe again. Cheers!!!;)

$18 000 in Asia can easily last you over 1 year.. maybe even 2 years depending on how thin you spread it- you can have an incredible time all through South Asia, and SouthEast Asia- personally I don't know I would stay over 1 year all in Asia- although there is indeed loads to see and do, and you could even volunteer along the way etc.. I would probably spend several months in SE Asia and then travel to either Europe or Australia-- you really should not have any limitations... Good luck

$18,000 crikey that could last a very very long in Asia, if you watched your daily spending and route. I am planning a trip to India next year, 2 months on a budget of $800.00, believe me you will get the best bang for your buck in Asia vs Europe.
