I was trying to decide which route to take and I thought that the best for me would be the route that I have written below. The only problem is, will I be able to get into Cambodia from Laos? Also does anyone have any suggestion to make it better and do you think that three months will be long enough?
My rough route:
Singapore (see the city a bit) - Malaysia (through Kuala Lumpur and continuing up the west coast) - Thailand (starting at the southern Islands up to Bankok and then head north to visit Chiang Mai and Chiang Khong etc) - Loas (Mekong River to Luang Prabang, Vang Vieng, Vientiane and then head south following the Mekong to the west of the country) - Cambodia (starting at Siem Reap then to Phnom Penh, Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom etc) - Vietnam (enter at around Chau Doc and then head up north along the east coast via Ho Chi Minh, Hoi An, Hue and finish in Hanoi).
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Hi there, I am doing a similar route starting in october with my girlfriend, we are starting in bangkok - ankor - Phnem Penn - Saigon - Hanoi/sapa/etc - Veitainne(laos) - up through north loas accross the top on the river to change mai - back through bangkok and onwards to KL and singapore. I think this is a pretty standard route called the indochina loop, so hopefully avoiding dodgy borders etc. Let me know what you think. i guess ill find out what its like in october!
Well, I did think that at first, but I travel up through thailand, and then down through loas and into cambodia and then up through vietnam. Its kind of like an N shape. The indochina loop misses out southern loas I think. I may well be talking rubbish though.
Your route souds good though. Im sure that yours will be all good. I just wanted to visit southern loas as well (dont think that was on your route...?).
Cheers for your help! If anyone else knows about the loas/cambodia border crossing, any help would be great.
