Dani,

I stayed in the Summer Tavern and I'm not sure what I thought of it in the end! Pretty decent, but if you're a lone female traveller I would say to find somewhere else.

It's opposite the MRT and decently located too. Not rock-bottom price, but almost as cheap as they come.

I found it on the Student Flights website so I thought it had to be legit and pretty ok, since Student Flights/Flight Centre is a big organisation. But when I got there at midnight, surrounded by about 10 huge men (including the Manager and his assistant) and not a single female traveller in my mixed dorm, I freaked out a bit! The next day I went on an emergency trip to find somewhere better, but ended up only finding dodgier and dodgier places (but I was only looking at very budget places)! In the end, I'd say it wasn't bad - clean bathrooms (but MIXED! ugh! I didn't feel very comfortable with that), air con and internet in the common room.

The manager made me uncomfortable, and also tried to force us into paying a fee that we didn't owe (and which he knew we didn't owe). He was very pushy and confrontational about it, but turned into a pussycat when one of my fellow travellers (male) sweet-talked him out of it.

I stayed at both MERCHANT COURT which is right on Clarke Quay and right next door to the MRT line which was excellent - decent rooms although when l was there almost 2 years ago there was a bit of building work ongoing. The buffett breakfast was excellent in the morning too!

I also stayed at CONRAD which was right on beside the dancing fountain and shopping malls but it is a longer walk to the MRT line - though cabs are easy enough found!

Both hotels are great - though not cheap

I stayed at the Harbour Ville hotel while there. Would not highly recommend it, was quite basic, close to HarbourFront and Mount Faber, a little way out of the city.

Was there for a few days taking panoramas of Singapore.
