Hi,

Just wondering if anyone knows if you atucally need £2500 in your bank before you leave for Australia. I have a working holiday visa for a year over there, getting the money shouldn't be a problem but just out of curiosity I was wondering if you actually need the money and if they actually check!!

Cheers, Matt

Most places in the world say you need a return ticket and need a minimum amount of funds, but rarely do they check unless you look a little suspicious. It would be a good idea to have as much as possible in your bank incase you don't find work straight away, but don't fret if you are a little under.

I know on a local TV show called Airport security (an Australian customs/immigrations show) occasionally things pop up where people get refused entry for such things, but it is only idiots who come with no funds (or very little funds), no credit cards and claim they are here for a fair while and not going to work with like less than $1000US in their bank. So seeing you have a working visa and would be honest saying you are here to work then you'll be fine, but you may just want to claim you have about £2500 in the bank even if you don't if they should ask you.

Dont think my bank account was checked as when i applied, my money was in an ISA, must of only had about 600 pounds (must of been a good week as well) in my current account if they did check.
