It is bad enough to be badgered by touts while travelling, but do we really have to put up with them, on TP?
I suppose, it may not always be easy to recognise who is a tout, but there are some who do not seem to travel, and only post, when they can plug their travel agency or tour guiding service. It is annoying for those of us, who have been pestered too much, by touts, in this life. Can or should anything be done about them?;)

Is that not what the spam button is for?

In general, I have no problem with someone mentioning themselves as a possible travel guide if:
(1) it is an on-topic answer to a specific question
(2) they provide some useful information to the original poster
(3) they disclose they are connected in some way to the travel agency.

Yeah, the flag button is for that GregW.
But sometimes, the moderators may not agree that a post is promotional enough to be Spamed.
The touts usually make an effort to make their post look on topic, but they are still promoting themselves in an annoying way.
The information they give is usually questionable. They tend to over promote their country, to the extend, that they "lie", about safety issues etc.
Yeah, they do disclose that they are connected with a travel agency, or else it will be in their profile.
Anyway, there is no point in asking me these questions, because as I said, they are not being obvious about promoting themselves, and they do make some show at giving travel information, which may in the eyes of the administrators and moderators of this site, make them valid members.

if a post looks a little like spam I just flag it down and then it is for the moderator to decide what to do;)

I think that's a smart thing. There's a list of all posts that are flagged as spam that we look at and it's tended to at least once a day by one of the admin, let alone assorted moderators. So even if it isn't spam, it would get unflagged pretty often. To be quite honest, in 99% of the flagged cases it is spam though .... you all are just so darn good at spotting it!!

In which cases (1%) is the post not considered spam?

LOL, I just came up with some nice username if you want to promote some travelsite or whatever: Spam I am....sorry;)

Can't think of any recently, but every now and then one will pop up. It's few and far between to be honest (ie. could also be 0.1% or less.... I'm not counting :) ).

Now that would be smart! I'd be tempted to let it slide, just on creativity alone

But anyway, here is a link, with 2 examples of the types of annoying posting(posts number 2 and 3), I am talking about. Would these be spam? I would not consider flagging them as spam, because I dont think the moderators would consider them promotional enough, even though I believe they are promoting their services, and I also find this type of posting an annoying nuisance. Yeah, I could ignore them, and it would be like how I ignore the Jehovas Witnesses, because they are not really doing anything worse than being annoying, but
