SteelBack has indicated that this thread is about Spain

I am going to be spending about 7 days in the Costa Blanca region of Spain and would love to find a little not-to-touristy town to spend at least a few days of relaxtion in. I am looking for a smaller local town with character and minimal tourists in the region (or near to it), on the coast.

Any suggestions much appreciated.

Cheers,

J

The Costa Blanca is soooooooo turistic that it will be very difficult not to find a little town without tourists... Anyway, I'd recommend you visited Altea, is a nice typical white little town (but touristic) and finestrat, for example... Bur for sure, thats one of the most touristic areas in Spain

have a nice time

Thanks for the advise, if there is nothing of the sort in the region, would going a touch farther south help? I could use up a day travelling for a town with more character quite happily.

Cheers,

J

As I said on the e-mail I just sent you Altea is probably the best kept town in the area and relatively not very crowded in spite of being only 10 kms from Benidorm.

Have a look on the google to some images of Altea.
Good luck

Thanks to both of you I'm going to do some research on Altea and will likely spend a few days there.

I'm looking for something even smaller for a day or two perhaps as well if you have any suggestions. I like to get the feel for the local culture.

Regards,

J

Yes Altea is probably the nicest town on the Costa Blanca. Alternatively try the area just inland from Denia (we stayed in the Hotel Alahuar in Benimaurell when we were in the area).

If you're further south, skip the Mar Menor region (except to use the airport) and try the Murcia coast. Aguilas is a lovely little town where you will definitely find your local culture.

Or go further still to Agua Amarga near Carboneras (Almeria is now the nearest airport). It's a tiny little seaside village in a beautiful bay, and the Hotel La Almendra y El Gitano is just stunning.

I've sent you a PM with a website to look at.

Hi,
It's right that Altea has still the character of a fisherman's town and the typical mediterranean white houses, but maybe due to this is well-known and very touristic.
For me, hte best option is Benisa: Benisa town is a really beautiful and quiet village 8 Km away from the beach, there are some touristic estates there but not close to the town but to the sea.
That's the nearest you can be from the mediterranean sea without feeling there are too many tourists.
Of course the interior of this area is much less touristic and, in my opinion, more interesting, Castell de Castells and Alcala de la Jovada are what you're looking for, the the nearest beaches are 20 minutes away.
If you need anything else, say it.
Sebas

Thanks for your help everyone, I'm going to have make a few big decisions about that part of my trip in the next few weeks. Your input has been great.

Another option would be Moraira a bit further North from Altea. It is a small village with a posh harbour.
