Hi mwaz,

we're looking to do roughly the same....

Not sure what's best. Fly to venezuela and try and overland it from there?

Have you managed to figure out a route?

You can't travel overland from South America to Central America. The Darien Gap in Panama has no land routes through it. The easiest thing to do is to fly. If you want to see the most, I'd recommend travelling overland up to Columbia and then flying from their to Panama City, and continuing on from there.

There aren't a lot of overland options from Brazil up to Venezuela. I think a bus runs from Manaus in Brazil, up to Boa Vista, Brazil and onto Santa Elena de Uairen in Venezuela. Getting to Manaus, though, would require either flying or a boat.

I'm not planning to see too much on the way up as I will be doing my travelling later on in the trip. I think I'm simply going to fly to Panama from Brazil and then get a second flight to Guatemala from Panama. I may spend a few days in Panama first. I will be spending two months in Guatemala and then I will do all my investigations of Central America starting in March.

Opodo do cheap internal flights in South America although I have never used the airline before so I can't make any recommendations on it!
