I planning on heading to Tanzania for maybe three weeks in February.
I had intended on doing some volunteer work but haven't chosen an organisation as yet - any ideas? I really don't want to pay for the priviledge especially if the money goes to a company rather then to the communities.
Also how easy is it to get around - if I was to do Kilimanjaro and the Serengeti?
Woudl appreciate any advice.
For Kilimanjaro and a safari, you can arrange for both in Arusha, which would be the best place to base yourself if that's what you are after. Both a safari and Kili climb could drop you back in Arusha. Arusha is well connected to most anywhere you'd want to go from there, either by air or overland.
I've done both a safari (advice here: Safari) and climbed Kili (advice here: Kilimanjaro Climb).
If you are planning on doing a safari in the serengeti and climb Kilimanjaro and are only in the country for 3 weeks, exactly when are you going to find time to volunteer? That's not a lot of time.
why not try kidsworldwide.org. That is who we are using and they look great. They only charge minimal for room and board and then $200 that goes into the project and you decide how to spend it. No one is getting rich from your volunteering
