I'm not sure if this has been addressed yet but here goes...
I've been trying to find a way to transfer images from Flickr into my TP blog and the short version is - I can't!!
Any ideas on whether this can be done? There must be a way.
I'd prefer to use Flickr as the storage allowances are FAR superior to TP's rather meagre 25MB a month. Have I made a massive miscalculation or is that only enough for 50 reasonable sized images or so per month?!
Thanks in advance for help!!
Unfortunately, linking photo from another site cannot be done. At least not for the time being. What you could do now is just to put a URL in your blog entry to direct your blog readers to that location.
Yes, Flickr's quota is definitely more than what we can offer at the moment. However you can't compare a website supported by a multi-million dollar company with the aim of photos alone, with another website provided by a couple of individuals who aim to provide a complete solution for travellers like you.
The 25MB that you're getting at the moment is only the starting point for newly joined members. For every blog entry you make, every member who joined from your blog site, every member you refer, every "featured" photo, contribution to the forums, you'll be given "points" which will eventually determine your "rank." As you go a rank higher, so will your monthly quota. The next step will be 50MB, then 100MB, after that 150MB, and finally 200MB when you reach the status of a "travel guru."
At this moment, the gallery will display your photos at the maximum size of 800x600 (size L) even if you upload a 3456x2304 pixels (8MP) photo. So, why upload such a large size photo? Edit your photos and make them smaller in size to about 800x600 pixels, and each photo will take up only about 100-250KB on the average, depending on the complexity of the image. With that, the 25MB already gives you an opportunity to upload an average of 100-250 photos in a month. And that's only for a start, as you'll have more as you go to a higher rank.
Another advantage of making the size smaller before uploading is that it will greatly reduce the time it takes to upload them. You don't want to wait for such a long time to upload 100 photos of 2-4MB each, do you?
Well, actually it is possible to include photos from anywhere you like in your blog. It's just that we don't provide an easy interface for it currently.
Basically what you need to do is manually edit the [img] tag.
You will need to find out the location of the photo you want to insert, for instance I have a photo on flickr at this location:
Then you need to include the img tag in your blog entry with that url:
Voila.. flickr photo in your Travellerspoint blog entry!
On the side note about bandwidth allowances:
When we set the current allowances sometime last year, it actually somewhat exceeded Flickr's allowance. Guess they have up'ed it a little in the meanwhile But still, if you become an active member and reach 'Full Member' status, your allowance would already be equal to Flickr's. If you become a Respected Member or Guru, your allowance will be double what it would be at Flickr.
The disadvantage of hosting your photos elsewhere is that they won't be able to be tied in with other Travellerspoint goodies like your map. And as Hien said, the quota can be easily stuck to by resizing your pictures prior to upload.

Oops! Hangs head in shame...
Thanks for your help guys! Very informative!
