Some people may have read my thread, about touts, and know that I think that the way touts interfere with travel discussions, by overpromoting their countries and their own services is a nuisance.

There is also another type of posting, which I find a nuisance.

I call it heckling, because these people cut into travel conversations, about valid issues, which travelers face and heckle. They are predominantly defensive, and demand that others do not address the travel issues, about safety, that are important to foreigners wanting to travel in these coutries. This has the effect of being a conversation stopper, or else it starts arguments. The following link contains examples of this. I think what Citybell and Arif Kool are doing is heckling. Aharrold is describing exactly what it is like for non Indian travelers, in India and I think they are heckling. Is there anything that can be done about hecklers? Should we flag their posts as inflamatory? Would this have any effect, or do we just have to put up with them. I have been a member of this site, since last August, and have seen countless incidents of this type of posting.

Yep, I've seen it as well, and it irritates the h*ll out of me. Sometimes a bit of self knowledge and also seeing the negative aspects of travelling or some country is as healthy as saying that everything is so wonderful, beautiful and fine and good.
Just face it, they are easily offended and have no feeling at all about self image when put in a rather negative way.
They think that we think everything is bad in India....that's pretty paranoid actually.
It is a good idea to flag these down as well in someway, but how?

what a fantastic and typical example of a thread indeed. and I agree with this nuisance very much. indians are indeed always hell defensive even when only the word "India" comes up. the last post of that thread of Utrecht has perfectly sketched the entire problem in few words. it shits the hell out of me too. it seems that there is no freedom of opinion.

Guys, it is not just Indians.
There are others who do it too.;)

I read it again. its so irritating what those guys are doing. "aharrold/guru" not even cares about replying. this is typical terror talk. many wars have started with such people. terrible.

with due respect to all the moderaters and travel gurus i am surprised that all of u are finding fault about our posts, but not a single word has been said about the unfortunate comments made by aharrold when he says that " Indians dont know the meaning of honesty and not even a single person speaks the truth."
I agree that he may have had a bad experience and im indeed sorry and feel ashamed of that but i only object to his making a generalised comment about Indians, which cant be tolerated. Even in some of the earlier INDIA threads i have observed him posting such things on the slightest opportunity.

Quoting arif_kool

arif. it was a discussion about touts. if u are NOT a tout then u should NOT feel offended. aharrold apparently had a not so good experience with the people in the touristic areas (triangle Delhi-Agra-Jaipur and Rajasthan where touts are VERY aggresive). keep in mind that this was a discussion about touts.

hi wouterrr,

I fully agree with u that this was a discussion about the touts and i am aware that the area of Golden triangle which is most frequented by foreign travellers is infested with touts galore.

aharrold, who may have had a bad experience and i feel sorry for that. While recounting his bad experience he should stick to that and not hurt the sentiments of average indians by making derogratory statements like this one:
" Indians dont know the meaning of honesty and not even a single person speaks the truth."

such a statement clearly speaks of indians as a whole as cheats and dishonest. It is a pity that such remarks were made. anyway lets close the issue here and have a cordial and friendly atmosphere at the forums and concentrate on ur main job of sharing our experiences with fellow travellers

regards
Arif

hi arif. see also my reply in the specific asia thread. if u haven't seen people that are honest, how can u say that somebody is honost. its indeed a little generalizing but he made his point. there is another india as well in my opinion, but apparently Aharrold hasn't found that yet. what I can say is that when u first visit India and u get all these touts around u (like fly's around some dogpoop) then its pretty hard. and to be honost, in the beginning I thought the same. I got very paranoia in paharganj, new-Delhi and also in Agra. but if u get in south-India it is the total opposite.
