ume has indicated that this thread is about Malaysia

My husband and I are hoping to head to the Perhentians in October (around the 17th~26th). I've read that by late October everything starts closing down as the islands head into monsoon season? Is it still worth going at this time of year? Any advice much appreciated!

it is not the right time to go in october. it will be raining everyday in the monsoon season. East Coast of Malaysia will be affected badly by it and it is dangerous as well. If you go there, there is nothing much you can do but just sit at the hotel whole day.

I would agree with Opospa. It is not just the torrential rain that can occur but also some very high winds. Not necessarily typhoon stuff but still uncomfortable. If you must go to Malaysia at that time of the year I would be heading for for Penang or even inland to the Cameron Highlands.

Dear Ume,

The whole east coast islands will be off bound to tourists and all forms of tourist activities during the South-east monsoon season. Most activities will only be concentrated along the mainland beaches or sea with reach of the mainland.

If you still want to be on an island I would suggest Langkawi as an alternative desitnation and if you are into diving Pulau Payar could be an alternative to the Perhentian islands. Give it some thought and you can contact me if you want more information about Langkawi and Pulau Payar.

Regards,

Ghani

I agree with the above posts. Normally things close down "officially" on 15th, but if the monsoon comes early, which it sometimes does, then things will close earlier.

Thanks for all the help - think we'll give the perhentians a miss at that time of year!
