The only real haggling they will do is perhaps give you a free beer or similar. Still, can't complain.

Re Brick Lane.

The street is full of curry houses so competition is fierce. Outside of most restaurants you´ll find owners asking you to enter and offering discounts up to say 30% depending on your group size and how empty they are or free drinks (normaly the first round of beers). Obviously Friday and Saturday nights are busier and therefore maybe you´ll find less discounts but shop around!

Just check the bill at the end of the night as usually they conveniently forget to include the discount.

Brick Lane is pretty cool and there are a fair few relatively cheap places to eat. Chinatown, just off Soho, also has some fairly cheap places.

Oh yes, Chinatown. I become addicted to Yum Cha at the New World Restaurant.
