Im going to be coming uptoi Rio from the Uruguayan border within the next couple of days. Other than Iguazu (which I'll be striking later), are there any places that you would recommend on the way up(specifically coastal)?

I have allin all, about three to four weeks for this trip, so any tiny, little, easy to miss places would be most appreciated

Ilha Grande a small island just off the coast a few hours south of Rio by bus looks amazing and I will be heading there this year.
Google it or search it on here as I have mentioned it a few times.

Also under a forum I did on train journeys there is one near Curitiba which looks pretty good.

I wouldn't mind finding out a bit about Porto Alegre myself so hopefully someone will mention that.

Enjoy your trip.

Hey Richard

I should be arriving in Porto Alegre sometime tomorrow morning, so remind me to tell you what I thought of it if you want to know. Im sort of in a bind right now, as theres amusician (a favourite of mine) playing about a thousand km out of my way, but am considering going to see him. I will, however, undoubtedly make time for Ilha Grande as I've heard great things, same for Parati and Curitaba.

- Trindade ( near Parati)
- Buzios ( near Cabo Frio )
All in Rio de janeiro state. Amazing places.

You can get Bus from paraty to trindade, it costs R$ 5,00 but it has a timetable that it works, but i remember there are VANS that take travellers to Trindade all the times, it must be more expensive, but quicker.

I can remember the infrastructure of the hotels and lodges. There were good establishments, but since it was a long time ago i donĀ“t know how it is nowadays. Probally it must be great too by what people say on the forums.
