You should definately consider traveling to Chiang Mai and the surrounding areas, lots to do, great food and beautiful.
Also Isan or northeast Thailand have some beautiful national parks and just all around a different atmosphere from the bigger cities such as bangkok and chiang mai, you'll also notice more people speak lao there than they do Thai.

Also Angkor Wat in cambodia is absolutely amazing!
hope you have a wonderful trip!

Amanda,
You have 5 weeks and will spend 1 in Cambodia. This leaves 4 weeks for Thailand. I would definitely get some beach time in. The Krabi area has some great options. Famous beaches such as Phuket & Koh Phi Phi, but also some less well know islands such as Koh Lanta & Koh Jum. Much cheaper and very pretty.

I would go into any travel shop in Krabi town and chat with the travel agent.Tell them your budget and what you are looking for. There are dozens of choices close to Krabi in every budget. This is the prettiest part of Thailand for beaches & scenery, IMO. Google; koh jum, koh lanta, railay beach, ao nang beach and see if this is an area you may want to visit. I have photos of some of the Krabi/Phuket area in my gallery.

PM me if you have questions.
