Hi, upon arriving into Bangkok, you can take a bus from the airport to Khaosan Road. It costs about 150 baht for 1 way. At Khaosan Road, there are alot of clean guesthouses!!You can choose there! There are too many guesthouses with reasonable prices. Or even cheaper one at the road next to Khaosan which is known as Rambutri Road. About Hanoi,i've got no idea mate!;) enjoy your trip!!

When you say you come in to the airport "late" how late are you actually coming in?

How much do you want to pay for a hotel room will determine which hotels are suggested to you. How much does CHEAP mean to you? Asia Hotel, Swiss Park, Business Inn and the Ambassador are some you might want to consider. They are all near the Skytrain for easy travel to many parts of Bangkok. (Ambassador has 24 hr. construction on the Sukhumvit Road side. Backside rooms should be okay.)

There is an Airport Express Bus that takes you into different areas of Bangkok for 150 baht. The kiosk to sign up for this bus is near door 8 close to the taxi sign up desk. The last departure for this "Airport Bus" is around midnight. So, if you come in after that time you will be forced to take a taxi. I think the bus is safer for you if you are a woman because the bus is usually full of other travelers - safety in numbers! This doesn't mean a taxi is not safe, just a suggestion on my part.

When you change your money over make sure that you get some small denomination currency for paying taxi cabs and street vendors. Even a 500 baht note may be too large to cash sometimes.

If you have to take a taxi there is a desk (near the Airport Bus) where you tell the "sign up person" where you need to go and he will write it down for the taxi. Price will be a 50 baht surcharge and whatever the meter price will come out to plus tolls. Probably somewhere around 350 baht for the ride. Make sure you have the exact address of the hotel you are going to.

I highly recommend the Hanoi Bly Sky Hotel in Hang Ba. It's in the Old Quarter and the staff here are absolutely fantastice.g. if you have just arrived back from a trip and you need a shower etc, they will do it for free. We are staying here at the monent and 2 of our frinds arribed back at 4.30am from Sapa and lent them a room to clean up etc for free. The place was renovated in OCt 2006, there is free internet, breakfast (baquette and jam) the food here is terrific, there is also cable TV and a fridge in the room. There are 3 of us and we are paying a room price of $15 US. It's a bargain and the back rooms are very quiet.

Hello Anna :)

U can use the following link, to book a room, on the Khao San Road, in Bangkok, before u get to Thailand.
http://www.khaosanroad.com/

When u arrive at the airport, in Bangkok, dont take the taxis advertising inside the airport. They are expensive. Go downstairs and outside. Take a taxi there. Be sure to ask the driver to switch on the meter, or else u will be charged a fixed rate, which will cost more, than the meter will clock up. It should cost less than 500 Bahts, to get to a hotel, on Khao San Road.
