I will have to get from Ecuador to Lima in a relatively quick time, 1 or 2 days, as I have a flight home out of Peru and dont' have that much time in Ecuador to begin with.
That being said, what do you think is the best way to get back? How much would a one way flight cost?
Assuming you depart from Quito, Lima can be reached in under 24 hours by bus when going via Guayaquil. No need to fly.
Cost of flight should be about US$ 300-400. TACA and LAN are the most popular airlines. Bus could be another option, but you will have to travel more than 20 hours, and the view is not so good in the part of the coast. If you like the sand, no problem.
We just came up from Lima to quito a few days ago by bus, 36 hours all up, left at 3pm, arrived at 3am. I would definately fly if budget allows, Peru landscape isn´t the most exciting thing in the world, just miles and miles of desert and sand.
Plus your body REALLY doesn´t appreciate that long sitting, esp if your in the 6ft+ catagory!
You are right Andy, the first time I traveled along "Panamericana road" in Perú I said "I will never do this again". I prefer roads that cross Andes mountains, for example, to Cuzco (south), to Cajamarca (north), to Huancayo (center).
