Hello. Would like to travel to Vienna this summer. Flights to Vienna too expensive. Would like some suggestions on some other countries to fly into from the US that wouldn't be as expensive, and then take the train or a puddle jumper flight. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thank you.
what airport would you be flying from? and what airports are nearby you?
oh and also, what are the dates you plan to leave and how flexible are you?
You could fly into the UK, and take a flight with SkyEurope to Vienna. They fly from Manchester and London-Stansted. (note that if you fly to London, normaly you would land at Heathrow, so you need the time to get to Stansted.)
You could fly into Frankfurt, and then with Air Berlin to Vienna.
You can also take a look here: http://revolutionmusic.eu/flightassistent/countries/austria/vienna.htmlthese are all the flight from Vienna, but it also works the other way round. So if you can connect from the US, to one of these airports, you can take a flight to Vienna. And is Vienna doesn't work you could consider taking a flight into Bratislava or Salzburg.
I totally agree with Herr Bert. However, you could also fly with Ryanair from London (STN) to Graz (1hr car drive from Vienna away) or u could fly to Linz (if it is cheaper - 2 hr car drive to Vienna).
Ryanair has really good prices. This airline also flies to Bratislava (1 hr car drive to Vienna).
In my opinion u should fly to London and then compare the prices between the Airlines (cheapest airlines to Austria from London (STN): Ryanair, Airlingus, Skyeurope). I would compare the prices for the flights to the Bratislava airport and Graz airport, because both are just 1 hr car drive away from Vienna.
If u cannot find reasonable prices there, u should check the prices of the Linz airport. Salzburg is approx. 2 to 3 hrs car drive away from Vienna.
So I hope that this could help u.
