mikewaims2 has indicated that this thread is about France

We plan to do a driving trip through the South of France, along the Mediterranean. We have done driving trips in the UK and had good luck finding a place to stay by driving to the tourist information center and booking a hotel or room on the spot. My question is can you do this in France and do you recommend it? Thanks for your help. Mike

hi Mike,
You will find tourist informaton in all the seaside town in France they are called syndicat d´initiative. If you are going in august some cities may be more difficult than other (e.g Cannes NIce). in this case just drive a litlle bit into the countryside and you should not have any problems. On my point of view the countryside is better than the seaside especially in south of France.

You can go to any Office de Tourisme or Syndicat d'Initiative and they should be able to help.
Also if you're into B&B you can browse the online directory of the Chambres d'HĂ´tes online at http://www.chambres-hotes-france.org/
If you are driving there throughout the summer holiday months, bear in mind that it could be difficult to find last minute avalaibilities so booking ahead could be a good idea.
Hope this helps!

I'd say go for it, although a little spoken French will help, especially in the country.
Nice is very busy, but a very easy place to stop and chill. I'm sure you'll find a room if you're not too choosy - although from mid-July onwards when the schools finish, you'd be mad!
