I fly into cairns on 29th November and need to work my way down to Melbourne until 23rd December. I was thinking of going with Greyhound and stopping for a few nights at each place along route. I have written out my route below and have allowed for a few days leeway...

Cairns = 4 nights
Townsville (including Magnetic Island) = 3 nights
Arlie Beach (inc. Whitsundays) = 3 nights
Fraser Island = 3 nights
Brisbane = 3 nights
Byron Bay = 2 nights
Sydney = 4 nights

Does that sound like an OK plan or is it ridiculously tight timing. Any help would be great :)

If you are in to partying and generally having fun, well you may want to make a 2 day stop in Surfers Paradise on your way from Brisbane-Byron Bay. Maybe to compensate you could take 1 day or even 2 off Cairns (it is the wet season then, so the weather will probably be dreadfully wet and hot so overall it may not be at all enjoyable at that time of year in Cairns). Brisbane is a pretty boring place, infact if it was my trip I would cut Brisbane out all together and stay that time in Surfers Paradise.

Have a great trip.

I agree, I would spend some days along the Sunshine Coast, can be busy like Surfers but other quieter places too.
