Perhaps useful to know for others too, as I don't think everyone is aware of it. Using the 'flag as spam' button is BY FAR the most effective form to deal with this stuff. First of all, if a user has two outstanding spam flags, they can't post, so this helps stop spammers right in their tracks (it actually works better than deleting the posts ).
Secondly, when something is flagged as spam, it gets added to a page that we regularly check with outstanding spam flags, which means that it's quick and easy for moderators and admin to see a whole chain of spam or isolated posts.
If someone rubs you the wrong way for a long time, feel free to use the PM buttons but I think things go faster the first way (and let's face it, that's why the 'flag as spam' button was created )
