I will be traveling to Vietnam in August but have not booked my flight yet. Im on a budget and flying from London.
Im not sure to fly to Bangkok or Hong Kong. Which way would be the best??
Should I get a transfer from the airport to Hanoi or HCMC or just make my own way there from Hong Kong or Bangkok?
Iv been quoted £750+ to fy to Vietnam which seems alot! (which involes a transfer)
Also Im not sure how long I will be there (could be months)so is it worth getting a one way ticket???? How long am I allowed to stay???? Il only have £1,500 to last on.
Il be very greatfull for any info.
Thanks v much
You can fly to Bangkok, if you are heading to hanoi then Air Asia ( budget airline ) has cheap flights, Bangkok is highly competative from most parts of the world.
Qatar Airways are about to launch flights into Ho Chi Minh City, have you tried them ? They often have cheap flights from South East asia so I would pressume the other way around. Otherwise I would say route via Bangkok.
I checked this out for another TP member and an open return ticket will be your best option. Two one way fares will be more expensive than open return.
Your cheapest gateway city will be BKK. As advised, fly Air Asia to HAN, book online as soon as you have your travel dates, about $60 one way.
You can get a 1-2-3 month visa for VN. Since you are unsure how long you will stay, get a 3 month visa. That is cheaper than getting a one month and extending it once in country.
If you do not drink or party, you can spend as little as $400/month while in VN. Most cities have rooms under $10, food is cheap if you eat where locals eat, say $4/day total. Figure $500/month to be safe when you put in transport and tours. The open tour bus is your best option when travelling up/down VN. Some companies charge as little as $20 to go from HAN-HCMC. This solves most of your transport needs. Local buses are cheap as well if you want to add to the open tour option cities.
I hope this helps you when making your travel plans. Send me a PM if you have questions.
Possibly the cheapest way would be to book well in advance and get a Oasis airlines flight to Hong Kong and then travel overland from Hong Kong. The flight you got quoted to Vietnam (if it is oneway) is certainly a lot more than an Oasis airlines fare. Unsure what the cost of a flight to Bangkok from London would be. When I looked last if you got a special on Oasis Airlines Hong Kong, you could get it dirt cheap when booking a long way in advance hence getting the super special price. Have as look in to Oasis airlines first for your dates before booking to Bangkok.
