I have heard that it gets as cold as 16 °C in northern Vietnam when I am there at the end of March/April-ish. Thats pretty darn cold.
Will I need a sleeping bag? I was planning to only take a silk sleeping bag liner, but I don't know whether that will be possible any more.
Thanks in advance!
March/April 2008 is a long way away.
Are you talking just Hanoi and Halong Bay or are you going to Sapa?
I pulled up past weather and it can get down to 11c in March and 13c in April. This is up by Sapa. That is nippy, but I would not bring along a sleeping bag for those few days. The hotels have warm blankets and the trekking companies use hilltribe huts for overnight stops.
You have plenty of time before your trip. Why don't you e-mail a few trekking companies and ask about accomodations while trekking and about sleeping bags? Then you will know for sure. Good Luck.
Good plan! Thanks for your help vegasmike6.
I will be traveling up to Sapa, yes, before returning to Hanoi to fly home. Really hoping that they do have those blankets! I will ask a few random places I think.
