i will be studying in berlin for a month this summer and i'm wondering if anyone has suggestions for sublets or how to rent a room. i would prefer not to have to stay in a hotel or hostel as I want to feel at home and settled while im there. My knowledge of german is somewhat limited so website referals that are entirely in german might not be much help. also, i am on a big of a budget.
but this kind of information is commonly found in german-language websites. Google for "Zwischenmiete Berlin" and you will find plenty of offers. If it says "WG" feel free to mail them in English - they are bound to be students looking for a flat sharing partner. At the worst you get no answer.
There are some websites with classifieds for Berlin in English:
Just an example... that website looks good, just keep checking it, there might be something in English every now and then.
I found these just by searching "flatmate berlin" with google. You should be able to find something that way I reckon.
Some of them seem very expensive and a bit of a scam, renting for a month should generally not cost more than 300 Euro, even in Berlin.
Miete is monthly rent, Nebenkosten is additional costs that need to be added to the monthly rent (e.g. for heating and gas). Kaution means deposit. Look out for Zwischemiete as that means people are looking for flatmates only for a short time while a permanent flatmate is not there etc. WG means shared flat, numbers in front of that tell you how many people there are.
Hope this helps.
