not sure about hostels as such, but the Soi Rambuttri and Khao San Road areas are the best places to go for budget accommodation. A double room with ensuite would cost you around 500B on Soi Rambuttri.

I stayed at a couple and the best one was Hostelling International Sukhumvit. It is mentioned in the Accommodation on Travellerspoint, was good value for money and is rated the best hostel in Bangkok by fellow hostellers. It was located a little away from the attractions, but it was close to the Skytrain so it's not too hard to reach everything.

I agree with Bex.
In Thailand hostels are not really the way to go. I'm assuming that since you want a hostel that you are looking for a cheap place to stay with lots of fellow backpackers and a good atmosphere. In Bangkok that means finding a cheap hotel in the Koa San Road area. Rambuttri street tends to have the best, cleanest, cheap accomidations in the area. Any hotel on that street will be just about the same and you shouldn't have to pay more than 300 as long as you don't mind shared bath (but if you were looking for a hostel than you proablaby won't mind).
