Anyone got any ideas where to stay on a budget in LA? i dont know much about the place and not really that keen on going to be honest but have to go as a stop off from hawaii to NY. There for a few days on my RTW trip. Can anyone put my mind at rest and tell me there's lots to see and do there for 3 days?
any help would be great.
I am also looking for somewhere to stay in LA, really don't want to book in advance but I need an address to put when I arrive due to visa requirements!
I've just emailed someone from school who now lives there so will hopefully get some good advice and can report back. I too am just stopping there on my RTW, hoping to head to the canyons though. When are you there incidentally?
Sorry to not be any more help!
hey, I stayed in the Magic Castle hotel in hollywood. everything to do was in walking distance. was cheap and clean with a bonus breakfast! hollywoods a bit run down, still plenty to do though and universal is only about 5 mins drive away, with the chinese theather a 5 min walk away. worth checking out.
I'm staying at USA Hostels Hollywood on recommendation from my friend, plus breakfast is included. Its on Schrader Boulevard and looks quite good
If a hostel is OK with you, I can highly recommend USA Hostels Hollywood. I have stayed there on three seperate occasions and it is definitely one of the better hostels I have stayed at in all my travels. It has free or cheap tours every day, is in an excellent location down a quieter side street but only a couple of hundred metres from the heart of the action. It is about 300-400 metres away from two metro stations but the better one to get off at is Hollwood/Highland station. The staff are very helpful unlike a lot of staff I came across in US hostels in the larger cities. The rooms are reasonable quality without being absolutely fabulous and all the rooms have an ensuite bathroom. They use to do a tour to the Hollywood sign that got you actually above the sign even though you are going on private property to do so. Last October when I stayed, they had stopped that tour, but would give you the step by step directions of how to get as close as you can to the sign without tresspassing on private property. I found enough to see and do for 3 days. You have got at least 4 themeparks within a couple of hours of the hostel, so if you for some reason ran out of stuff to see in 3 days which I highly doubt, you could always go to Universal Studios or one of the other themeparks. You can walk around the walk of fame seeing how many of the peoples names you actually recognise, see the movie stars hand and foot prints outside the Chinese Theatre, do a tour in the theatre, maybe catch a world premier there if you are lucky, do a Hollywood Hills tour (maybe see some famous people walking their dog or jogging up there), go to Santa Monica/Santa Monica Pier and Venice Beach, head to the Hollywood sign, do a star home walking tour (if you stay at the hostel that is cheap), go to Universal Studios and plenty more. Just going to Santa Monica could be made a daytrip and the same with Venice Beach, but you could see both in the same day.
thanks for the help much appriciated i will def check out the hostel you recomended, hostal will be the way to go as it will be the tail end of our RTW trip and skint as [email protected] by then!
