I will be traveling the whole east coast of Oz and i'll only have about 4 or 5 days in Sydney (one of the days will be the early AM arrival from the US). Do you recommend a day trip to the Blue Mountains or should I devote my time to the city or the beaches? I'll be there in early June (about two weeks from now). I will be heading up to Cairns and I want to visit Kuranda, so should I elimate the Blue Mts in sydney?
I certainly recommend a day trip up to the Blue Mountains - even just to get out of the city for a day!
We did our tour with a group called WONDERBUS - incidently Sean who l think is owner of the company often drops by TP though l havent seen him about the forums in a while - this was a decent priced tour that took you to the main areas in the region, past a wild life park - which was fun - feed kangaroos and pet a koala - to a winery (which was ALRIGHT nothing to write home about) around Sydney's Olmypic Park - again alright not much going on to be honest a drive past it would have been suffice for me and then a cruise up the river where you get off at Circular Quay (in sight of Opera House & Harbour Bridge!).
The price didnt include lunch or if you want to do various attractions the gondola or train thingy in Blue Mountains you pay yourself - cost was about AU$80.
There are other tour companies (advertised everywhere) such as A&T Kings.
Otherwise l think there is a train you can take from Sydney into the Blue Mountains if you want to go it alone.
We were only in Sydney for 5 days but fitted in the trip to the Blue Mountains.
The blue mountains are worth at least a day. Dead easy to get to by train - one at least every half hour from Sydney Central station, takes just under 2 hours to Katoomba.
we also went on a day trip to the Blue Mountains - it's really worth it!
We took the train from Sydney to Katoomba in the morning and just started walking to the Three Sisters and descended to the valley floor and walked further through the rain forest. Near Katoomba Falls there is a cable car that traverses the gorge and offers excellent views on the beautiful landscape. We really enjoyed this day trip!
Filika - Best regards,
when i was in sydney last we booked a day out at the blue mountains, got a bus at 8 and drove there. once there we started a trekk down the rainforest and back up the other side. we then stopped for lunch and the views were extraordinary. after this we went to the 3 sisters for the day and it was the most magnificent day. think it cost $45AUD. one of the best days ever
Would definitely recommend making the trip, worth trying the scenic railway at Katoomba
