Dave, I'm sure there will be people out there all the time, and as to how much, I'd say 'not a lot'. I travelled with partner and two kids and we ate out every evening for an average of 8 quid, including a drink each. You can get a bowl of rice for about 20p!
Take what you've got and see how far it goes.

Dauce - First of all, don't be scared to read other posts on Thailand before asking questions. I answered a question yesterday called "Thailand Itinerary". It's for a three week itinerary. But for your questions on what to see in Thailand I would say the same thing, only go a little slower since you have a month.
For money, 10 pounds a day is plenty if you are living on a budget, but not scrimping on everything. You can have a good time on this. If you want to live as cheaply as possible, you can get by on 7 pounds if you really want to, but I wouldn't recommend it. On top of that 10 pounds, add one more for ever large beer you drink.

Is there going to be anyone else there? There will be thousands of other travellers, any solo, in every single town you visit. Honestly, you won't believe it until you see it, but there is nothing to worry about. You'll find people to hang out with.

Wills - The full moon party is a monthly gathering on Had Rin beach on Koh Phagnan, and island off the eastern coast. It's basically an all night party on the beach featuring thousands of young backpackers from all over the world. It's a good time for sure. They also tend to happen on the half moon, quarter moon, new moon.....really just about every night of the week on Had Rin, but the full moon gathers the largest crowd. The biggest problem with the full moon party is accomidation since just about every room on Had Rin is booked out in the days leading up to the party. But there are rooms on other beaches of the Island and many just get a taxi to the party on the night. Some even come over from Samui for the night. You don't really need a room that night - no one is sleeping. For more info, there is a website I just found - http://www.fullmoon.phangan.info/

How much you take with you kind of depends on how you intend to live. If you are into expensive night clubs and fancy hotels every night you will need more than a backpacker who is eating off the street and sleeping in cold water flops. Usually most travelers are somewhere in the middle.

Only you know how much money you have available to spend. Figure out how much you would like to spend per night for a hotel - rough it with cold water, fan and dorm style with shared toilet OR A/C, private toilet/shower, etc.

In Bangkok you can find air conditioned hotel rooms with hot water and private toilet/shower, starting around 600 baht. Smaller towns or Pattaya air con hotels start at a little lower price. There are of course hotels that charge over 4000 baht per night if that is your choice. A hotel room in the 800 baht to 1400 baht is not that bad.

Up to you! I would take a credit card with me for back up in case an emergency comes up. If you intend to use credit or debit cards to supply you with spending money always have a spare card in case an ATM eats your card or it comes up "missing!"

If you want some specific hotel recommendations state how much your budget is for each night in that area.
