My Nikon D40 is sick - it started when we were in Montreal - the photos were very very dark - even though the sky was blue with not a cloud in sight - l first of all thought it was me - ld hit some setting without realising it and because lm such a novice. BUT no - this week l was taking some snaps at work for our newsletter (it involved a snake and our PR person is petrified of snakes so asked me to do the honours!) ANYWAY again it was overcast but we were outside and it was bright but still the photos were extremely dark and l had to enhance them on photoshop to get a photo but it was obviously they had been "fixed".

Yesterday l was out taking photographs of gas boilers (FOR WORK!) for a technical brouchure - and same thing -the results were so dark.

So l took the camera back to Jessops (UK camera chain where the camera was bought albeit via online service but that doesnt matter the shop accepts returns) and the guy went through all the modes and it turns out there is an exposure issue.

The camera needs to be sent off to Nikon for repair or see if they can repair it (this can take up to 4 weeks minimum) - its only 5 months old so under warranty still (l have the NIKON warranty print out but details on it are scant) - but I CANT FIND THE ORIGINAL INVOICE! I have the confirmation email sent when the order was placed but l need the paperwork that came with the camera when delivered! My house is in turmoil at the moment as lve had new central heating put in and new windows and doors and waiting on a new kitchen going in so everything is UPSIDE down - but l need to find this damn invoice - its somewhere l know it is but as to where l dont know!

Anyway - anyone any experience of this - or simply just sympathise with me - worst case what do you think it could cost to send it off for repair at my own cost? Is it worth it? The camera package cost £500 for the body and 2 lenses.

Ok just moaning - it will get sorted somehow!

hi Heather,
calm down and stop diggin around,it wont help.
after some time when you are able to think "clear"go slowly again through the places where you would keep "normaly"such things like receipts or warranties.
take your time and look careful at every little piece of paper.
maybe you look out for a bigger piece of paper and in reality it is a much smaler cash printout and looks completly different from what you are surching for?
this happend to me just a few weeks ago when I was going through my papers again and again for a very importend receipt to get my deposit of $1200.00 after 17 years from the Goverment back.
I was very frustated when I found my permits from all this years but not this receipt.
In the middle of the night I got up and started again going throug the box I kept this papers and THERE IT WAS. It was not so big like the other papers,it was very smal so I had just overlooked it in my hectic
surch action.
so Heather stay calm and start it over again,I cross my fingers for you.
Do you have a stamp and a signature from the shop you bought the camera on the warranty card? In case you dont find the invoice this
should be enough.

I know that feeling! There's nothing as irritating as not being able to do something about stuff like that - especially when your camera is rendered unusable at the moment.

Well invoice number found and the camera has gone off for hospitalization for a few weeks - hopefully it will come back fixed and ready for action!

Poor little camera!
