yeah the $dois a nice little camera, amazingly small and light for a D-SLR, as for your images coming out dark, there could be a nuber of reasons, first of all what setting were you on? semi manual exposure (aperture priority or shutter priority) or full auto shooting mode? lets assume you were in auto, there 2 likely causes, most likely is that your light meter is mesed up, Nikon's metering system is arguably the best ont he market, I shoot with a canon and I still think the nikon metering is better. trouble with the meter is it;s not as durable as others. the MUCH less likely problem is the aperture of your lens is stuck at a certian spot, but this is very rare and I haven't heard of it happening on a long time. as for losing the paper work, not sure what to tell ya, sucks though.

there is a new camera in the market if you dare to handle it, Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III.
