Im flying out to in August to Oz from London and have 8 hours to wait in Hong Kong till my flight to Cairns. Is it worth going out for like five hours to see what there is outside HK airport, is there anything worth visiting near by?? Has anyone else done this?
The island that the airport is on, Lantau, actually has a really cool golden buddha on top of a hill... it's worth a visit. There's a monastary there as well so you could spend an hour or two there. At least you won't be stuck in an airport for 5 hours. Or there's Disneyland. If you're into that.
Ok, thanks, gunna have to check out the Buddah, maybe not Disneyland tho, LOL! Can you just leave and re-enter the airport before you have checked in? Because ages back I read something about paying or a visa or something, maybe got it mixed up with something else cant remember and cant find the site again, thanks for the reply.
If you will be not to tired after the flight take the fast train to the city and just see some great builings that Hong Kong got to offer. If you will be very tired there is some nice spa at the airport where you can take shower and relax befor the next flight.
Thanks for the reply, might check out the city aswell, shower will be nice aswell
Anyone know about leaving and re-entering the airport?
Thanks for the replies, they r really helpful
You can just leave and go back to the airport without needing a visa.
The Buddha you can visit with this skyrail, it's amazing if the weather is ok!
You can take a bus or taxi to the starting place of this skyrail, the fast train to downtown hongkong for some strange reason doesn't stop here on the way to the airport, there are two different lines.
Otherwise, take the fast train to Hongkong central (end station), not Kowloon, which is really a long wolk from any interesting place to be honest, and Kowloon is boring anyway.
From Hongkong central you can take a ferry trip in the harbour or go up Victoria Peak. you will have lots of time, transport is very efficient.
Wasnt too sure about time, but sound like i can do it fairly quickly. I should have around eight hours.
Anyways, thanks for the reply, it is really helpful.
