Hi guys, I'm taking 10 days in August to visit either Cambodia or Vietnam, want to do a bit of sightseeing for 5 days then lie on a beach for the other 5 days.
Just wondering if anyone can recommed whcih country would be best at this time of the year?

Ikey,
This is a tough time of year for getting some beach time. I think your best bet is going to be VN. If the weather is wet in the south, you have a chance that DaNang my be OK. VN is over 1000km long, so one part may have beach weather while the rest is raining. In Cambodia, you really only have Sihanoukville to choose from for beach time. It is rainling there, you are out of luck. I would keep looking at the weather online and go from there. Good Luck.

Nha Trang certainly should be on your list. Good beach, bay tour, plenty to do after the sun goes done. Mui Ne is not too far from NT, a much smaller city and more laid back. Pass on Vung Tao, the VN go there in hoards. One other choice is Phu Quoc, an island at the extreme south. This is what I mean by being flexible. Check with the travel shops once there and inquire what location is having the best weather. There is now a discount airline in VN. Pacific Airlines flies to many locations where you may choose to go.

I have NT photos in my gallery. Good Luck.

It's a tought question this...

I travelled from Hanoi - Saigon and vistied all the places in between. Had a great time and there is so much to see. It took me about 14 days to travel the coast, so you should be fine.

I also visited Cambodia, which really opened my eyes. some beautiful scenary and templetes especially with Anchor Wat etc, however think 10 days might be too long just in Cambodia, so would suggest Vietnam. Make sure you visit a place called Ho ain. Its awesome and has some great resturants.

Vietnam offers better beach retreats as compared to Cambodia. I would suggest that you land in HCM city before you embark to other beach towns in Vietnam. HCM city is the best getaway to some decent beach holidays around Vietnam. You can head to Vung Tau on the south of the city and Mui Ne & Nha Trang towards the north. From HCM city, you can also enter Cambodia with the bus to Phnom Penh. Check with numerous travel agents in the bacpackers area in De Tham St & Pham Ngu Lao St. From Phnom Penh, you can purchase your ticket at the bus terminal adjacent to the Central Market to your next choice of destinations. Regular bus services to major towns are available at this terminal. The agents in HCM backpackers area also offer many inexpensive trips to the beach towns mentioned above as well as the popular open bus which will take you from one city to the other and you can choose your destinations you want to stop at. Enjoy your trip.
