Hi guys, I am already spending a full w-end in Barcelona, but was wondering if there is still much nightlife there from Sundays to Wednesdays as well, during the month of July ? I heard that in summer, every night in Barcelona is like a Sat ngt, is this true ? Also, what should I expect to pay for entry/cover charges to the clubs in La Rambla, and also how much for a beer or spirit ??
I've never been to Spain but from what I've watched (travel shows) and what I've heard (fellow travelers) you should have no problem with nightlife in mid July. Obviously, I can't answer the second part to your question
Is there nightlife in Barcelona! Is there water in the sea?
Sorry, I have no idea about clubs on the Ramblas.
Equally I don't know about bar prices in Barcelona but I can give you a general idea of prices in southern Spain from which you could try to extrapolate.
In an "ordinary" bar, beer, coffee or a glass of wine is 1 euro. In a touristy place it's 1.50. I think spirits are a touch more, but not sure as I don't drink them. If you're used to rigidly controlled (small) measures of spirits, this will be an eye-opener to you. The barman will start pouring and keep pouring until you say "Stop." However it is good etiquette to say "Stop" when the glass reaches about half-full.
Just got back a few weeks ago. Things do pick up more on weekends - from Thursday to Sunday.
Clubs can be quite pricey, can't give you exact prices, I forget if i'm honest. We were on the cheap and a lot of the time just got crates of lovely spanish beer from the local shops so we were well and truly plastered before leaving our apartment.
A few tips, there's often people hanging around the clubs giving out free passes, some clubs are as expensive as 20 euro to get in, so its definitely worth trying to get the passes. Be careful for pickpockets, it is true what they say.
And make your way down to the beach area, massive strips of bars and clubs which are free to get into. Pretty sleazy but theres a positive vibe about the place.
Enjoy, its a lovely city. And don't forget to see La Sagrada Familia.
Hey guys, thanks heaps for the feedback. I too will be trying to do some things on the cheap. Even if Im not a big drinker, which Im not, paying 20 euros just to walk in the door, then another 4-6 for a drink, all adds up!
there is loads of night life in barca, however you have to find it, the bars are quite spread out the best bars are not necasaraly in les rambles, there will be lots of people on the streets nr les rambles handing out flyers there is also big nights out (pub crawls) organised by hostels. I have visited barca to see friends who live there and they showed me where to go. Loads of places have happy hours but on average your gonna pay 3 - 3.50 euro for a pint. Most bars are free to get into and clubs will be prob 10 euros - and open super late. there are some secret bars open all night but you will have to ask around for those and one in particular is very dodgy! also make sure you dont get mugged barca is notorious for muggings and having wallets and bags stolen so never leave it on a table or easy to reach pocket.
i'd recommend doing one of the pub crawls, i went on one on a friday night (i think, could of been saturday) and it was crazy but they run them tuesdays and thursdays also with the company i went with. good as you mix with plenty of hostel people and locals, lots of free drinks and free entry to clubs once you've paid for the crawl (which is usually about the same price as entrance to the club anyway). think it was called insomnia
