In August I'll be spending just over a week in Morocco and planning to head from Fez - Tangier via the Atlantic coast. I was wondering if I have time to go to the High Atlas Mountains and where I should go/what I should do there (won't have time for a 5 day trek)?
Also can anyone recommend somewhere to stay on the Atlantic coast between Rabat & Tangier that has some atmosphere (and surfing).
gpoing to the Atlas mountains from Tangier oe even Fes requires at least 3 days. You 'll ned more time to explore them. As for a nice beach between Rabat and Tangier I'd suugest Asilah' 40 kilometers from tangier) or Sidi Bouselham. To surf you'll need to go to Essaouira which is quite far ; some 550 kilometers from Rabat
Asilah is a good tip; it's a nice little town.
As for a trek, why not come back through the Rif and explore the area around Chefchouen? It will save you a lot of miles on the road.
Completely agree with Asilah and Chefchouen, but totally miss Tetouan. It has some of the most aggressive touts I have encountered.
