Hello, just a quick question -

I was wanting to update my profile picture, but when I go into my public profile and click on my existing picture (ie I access my own profile the same way anyone can and try to get a better look at myself as the many female TP members have undoubtedly done) it redirects me to the Travel Photography main page - why is this?

That would be a bug.. will look into it.

The reason this happens is that you've unchecked the "photograph" checkbox for that photo. We never show non-photographs in the galleries - such images are (for example) graphics that people can use to set up their own blog layouts etc. It's a bug that such a photo could show as your profile picture at all, and I've just fixed this. (Will show up here on the site in a couple of days probably.)

What you should do to make the link work (and to have that picture show up as your profile picture at all once my fix gets to the site) is to go to your photo gallery, click on "edit information" next to the photo and to check the "Photograph" checkbox.

That was what I thought too in mikey's case. However, I did some tests with my photo before I submitted my reply (should have done the test before typing the long reply!), and found something interesting.

If the "tags/me/" is removed from mikey's profile photo URL, it'll show up. I have a "private" photo but it still shows up if the link is correct. Is this by design, or a bug?

Can we see a show of hands here for those who'd done it? ... *Looking around* ... Hey, Jase and James, I was referring to female TP members!

Heh, nice find. It's not really "by design", but that does work as intended. There never should be any links to a non-photo picture, but we have no problem with actually showing a non-photo picture if it's directly requested.
The redirect is actually separate from the photo/non-photo issue, and just triggers because there's zero photos found in the subgallery of mikeyboab's photos tagged as "me". (We do no checking whatsoever if the selected photo actually belongs to the gallery - because, in the end, that'd be just wasting processor resources. We want the URL to be as 'hackable' as possible. And yes, that means you can create links like this: www.travellerspoint.com/photos/stream/size/M/photoID/38460/users/Hien/tags/me/ (intentionally not linked - let's not give google ideas, okay?), but that should never happen validly.)

I tried to peek once but kept fainting before I could get a proper look. The doctor suggested Gravol but I think I can build up my strength all on my own...

Due to some other changes in the same file, I'll wait a couple of days before uploading Sander's fix. In the meanwhile, if you follow his advice it should work:
