Safe to go Krabi now?

Travel Forums Asia Safe to go Krabi now?

Hi everyone.

I'm going on a trip to Krabi, Thailand in early July for a short trip.

But yday my parents simply hit the roof once they knew I'm going there, due to the recent violent acts, especially in southern Thailand. Not that I'm afraid of them or something, but I also do understand their concerns, and seems like their worries are starting to get to me now and making me panic a little. :(

Hence would like to ask if anyone has any idea about the safety levels there now, perhaps you have a friend/family memeber who recently went there or something? Would really be thankful for some forthright advice/comments.

Many thanks! :)

Best Rgds,
LengLeng

Sawasdee ( Hi)

I am Thai, I can understand your parent’s concerns but may I provide some advices,
South of Thailand is very long..I mean 2,000 km-long next to Malaysia, there are only 3 provinces have such problem but not included such tourist places like Phuket,Krabi,Samui …

Krabi is the Mecca for Backpackers from around the world, thanks to film like the Beach, you may just read other’s comments here you will see that there are a lot of people are keep going to the South of Thailand because of the beaches along 2 sides of Thailand some popular ones is “Phi-Phi” the island which had been voted as one of the most beautiful islands on this planet

I wish you can explain to your parent and make the most wonderful trip in Thailand

Have a nice trip

Linly

Wow linly,

Thanks so much for your reply. It comes especially helpful and comforting when it comes from a native herself. I can't overemphasise how thankful I am for your reply. :)

I hope I am able to convince, or at least comfort, my parents with what you explained. Then at least both myself and them can have a peaceful mind before and during my trip. Otherwise, I can imagine I would quite bothered and probably can't wait for the trip to end, in order to quickly come home and let them rest their mind, as I do not wish to be an inconsiderate child who ignores her parents' concerns.

Appreciate it lots, Linly!!

Best regards,
Claire

hi leng leng,
tell your parents not to worry.
krabi is definitly safe for travellers.
you will find a lot of travellers there as well.
as i told you in the message, southern thailand is very big.
starting from Chumporn.
And also Krabi is not 1 of the Pattani Kingdom.
Separatists just want to claim back Pattani,Narathiwat and Yala provinces.
The conclusion is,Krabi is safe for you!!!
Hope your parents will change their minds and let you go on with your planning. Good Luck!!!;)

Hi there just reading this thread, im heading to southern thailand soon, and planning on going all the way through and accross the border to Maylasia. Is this a good thing to do or is it still risky further south than karabi?

Well,i guess if you are going to enter malaysia through Sadao or Padang Besar,it is still ok.
Just try to avoid enter through Sungai Kolok or Tak Bai immigration because those 2 used to have a series bombings before.
If you are stopping in Hadyai, just stop for a while...
dont stop there too long. :)
