I'm a lil ambitious.
My plan is to hit 3 places in 4 days.
I'll be touching down in Bratislava in this coming August around 9:30-10am on the 1st day.
So I presume that I can pretty much cover Bratislava town it self on the very 1st day.
On the 2nd day, I wanted to travel to Budapest via train since it's much quicker than hydrofoil. I've checked that Hydrofoil will takes 4.5hrs and charge 99Euro for a return trip Bra-Bud-Bra. As for train it takes 2.5hrs to reach Budapest.
However, I failed to check how much it'll cost by a return train ticket because the link below redirected me to a non-english webpage.
Anyone got a clue on how much is a return fare for a direct train from Bratislava to Budapest?
Planning to spend a night in Budapest.
3rd day, I'm thinking of an evening train from Budapest to Vienna and spend a night in Vienna, and cover Vienna on the 4th day, before heading back to Bratislava in the evening to catch my flight back to London. Flight is at 22:30.
Kindly please advice as if the whole idea is too much, I'll be skipping Vienna if that's the case and will only concentrate Bratis & Buda.
I would appreciate your kind advice.
I think it is doable....rushed, but doable.
Bratislava is easily covered in a day...since you are so rushed I would suggest that after landing in Bratislava do a power tour of the city all day and then catch a night train out to Budapest. Wake there in the morning, tour the city then stay the night. Catch a morning train to Vienna, tour the city and spend the night. Then wake early and tour some more, before catching a early afternoon train back to Bratislava (maybe around 15:00 or 16:00) and head to the airport.
Vienna is a big city so I would suggest just covering the area directly surrounding Stephansplatz and Volksgarten
Thanks for the tips. I've thought before of taking an overnight train frm Bratislava to Budapest so that it saves me a night accomodation in Bratislava, however from what I understand the train journey to Budapest will only take 2.5hrs, I'm wondering how they gonna stretch that sort of hour to an overnight journey...
^ I never meant an "overnight" train per say.....I just meant take a train around 22:00 or so and then arrive in Budapest and go straight to the hostel or wherever and sleep. That way you can start on the touring of the city fresh in the morning. Without wasting daylight on a train....
There are no 'classic' overnight trains neither between BRA-BUD nor between BUD-VIE. You can also check prices and timetables for coaches here: http://www.volanbusz.hu/english/search_int.php?page=timetable&menu=2&submenu=1.
The trip is doable if you only want to have a glimpse of each city.
Enjoy your stay!
