When AirAsiaX was introduced in January, it was announced that they will start service by the end of the year. Shortly after they've decided to use Airbus 330, they were told that the planes could not be delivered in time for the launch. So they pushed the launching date to the middle of 2008. Two months ago, they decided to lease an aircraft instead and to go ahead with the original launching date of the end of the year while waiting for the new planes.

Now the question is where they would first fly to with that single plane. I think it's most probably the UK as it is the country they promoted during the introduction of AirAsiaX in January. The fare to the UK was advertised to be from as low as MYR9.90!!! (GBP1.50 | EUR2.15 | USD2.90) But of course, that price is probably valid only for the first 10 seats of the flight, and the fare will then start increasing.

Ok forgive my ignorance here - but where will they fly between between? Europe and Asia???????? Cos those prices Hien has quoted are unbelievable - even if the prices increase by 100% - WOW!

AirAsia is a Malaysian company, so naturally it's going to be from its main hub in Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). There are already plans to expand the existing Low-Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) at KLIA to accommodate long-haul flights (over 3 hours) that will carry in and out hundreds of passengers per aircraft. The current set-up is only good for regional flights (within 3 hours) because when they built it two years ago, they never foresee the possibility of long-haul budget flights.

I think I will visit Malaysia before then, to avoid those budget families who are going far away for the first time in their lifes

Simon, this topic talks about AirAsiaX, so you probably won't get much answer to your question, if at all. Please post your question in a new thread in the Asia forum. You'll get more response there, and quicker too. :)
