Just wanted to pick your brains on where to stay in Hong Kong.... Im arriving in late at night and travelling alone (single female) so want to stay somewhere nice, central and safe.. any ideas???
Also if someone can advise what the must sees (3 days ) are that would be great... ocean park or disney or neither!?!
thanks for your help
hei i am from hong kong and i can tell you that even at night it's very easy to go from airport to city centre, as long as you are arriving before mid night you can travel by bus or MTR.
i can't give you any advice on accomondation since you know, i am living in hk and i'm not sure about the hostels stuff, but Tsim Sha Tsui would be a best place to stay since it's the city centre. don't expect a very luxury hostel as hk is not that into the backpacking culture, tourists often stay in hotels instead.
about what place to go, i guess it depends on what's your preference? but if the weather is good enough i think the peak is a must-go sights and the view at night is really great.
for disneyland, it's the smallest disneyland in the world but i think it's still a nice place. however for a 3-day-trip i don't think it's worth to visit.=]
Hi - get the shuttle bus from the airport to Kowloon...I stayed at the Kowloon Hotel New Garden Hostel - Mr Li the manager will meet you off the bus. It stops outside his hotel in Nathan Road. Reception is E1F1 13Floor Mirador Mansion 58 Nathan road email: KLN 123 at i-cable dot com...its tiny but has dorm rooms and is an easy way to meet other single travellers.
Kowloon is the best area to stay, its cheap and near everything, there are superb markets, the avenue of stars...its safe to wander as a single female traveller and everyone is friendly and wants to help.
The metro is a great way to get to other islands, so too is the star ferry, really cheap too.
Have fun and try not to spend too much!
places to see...avenue of stars & the lazer show (at night)
Lantau Island & the giant buddha (get snack meal ticket & eat in the temple after the sight-seeing)
Victoria peak & tram
Sha tin & 10,000 buddhas
the markets in Kowloon
get a map when you arrive at the airport, have a browse thru and see what sort of things you'd like...there is sooo much to see, I stayed 4 days and wished I'd given it more time
Thanks so much for those replies. I feel a little more at ease now knowing that it is a friendly safe place. I hate arriving late in strange places where i dont speak the language!
Thank you also for those suggestions, i will look into the accommodation you mentioned. and those activity ideas are great.
