Although I have never been to AThens I can highly recommend Rome. I spent three days there and walked roughly 45 miles. I did forget my DK Book but everything is so accesible that never really mattered. The city is beautiful, my favourite thing to do was at night there is a road behind and overlooking the forum , at night when (also before 7 in the morning) it is closed and nice to sit float back in time. The collesum will be sitting directly behind it so makes for a great eyeball.
