I had a post in a few weeks ago asking about accommodation along highway 1 between San Fran and LA. But I'm thinking now that I might bring a tent and go camping instead.
I've been looking up a few websites and there seems to be LOADS of places, mostly state parks, for camping. I have accommodation booked in Monterey so I'm planning on making 2 more (maybe 3) overnight stops before I hit LA. So can anyone recommend any campsites along the way?? And would it be advisable to book in advance or can I just wing it while I'm there?
Limekiln state park is great. I just went there and got a spot, but I wing most stuff like that.
First of all let me say that you reside in one of my favorite cities in the world. Funny story: My husband and I spent our Honeymoon at Ariel House on Lansdowne Road last April. We just happened to arrive, roller luggage in hand, right as the stadium was letting out from the rugby match between Munster and Ulster. My husband and I, like salmon swimming upstream, against 50,000 exiting fans from the stadium. Pretty funny actually.
Anyway, I agree with Kristen on her choice of campsite and here is another web address that offers a few other campsites throughout Big Sur. http://www.bigsurcalifornia.org/camping.html I'm sure you shall have a wonderful time.

Thanks Kristen and Ladymcwilly (try living and working in Dublin for 7 years - the novelty soon wears off I can tell you!!!)
Limekiln was on my shortlist for the Big Sur area. It's now top of my shortlist...
