I'm planning my trip to Oz for 1 year leaving in March next year ( I know it's a long way off but it will soon come round) :)

Please can anyone advise me on a good route to take. I plan to travel the east coast (up or down) and visit Ayres Rock and the great Barrier Reef. I live for the SUN so warm weather would be good.

Whilst i'm out there I would like to learn to dive, surf and experience all things that are FUN. Any recommendations of where to learn these things would be good.

I also have a working holiday visa.

Any advise would be appriciated.

Hiya Jo,

Planning to start in sydney...then move up the east coast(carins, gold coast whitsunday etc...), GBR, maybe Darwin...Alice Springs and Ayers Rock then down to the south east and back to sydney.....then depending on time/money would like to see some of new zealand....after OZ.

That sounds like a good route to take - start at the North and work down the East coast that way you follow the sun!! Good thinking.

I got that wrong didn't I??!! It's the opposite to England so it would get cooler not warmer - for the warm weather we would have to head North not South. Oh it's so confusing :-/

Just to let you guys know that december through to march is the wet season in the northern parts of Australia, stinking hot with heavy rain, but dry summer in the south. For dry summer in these periods Perth and Adelaide would have the best weather and beaches as well as sydney. Melbourne would have good weather as well but a little bit cooler without descent beaches but a fantastic city which really comes alive in our summer.

Thank you djgtb for your comment.....
So when would be the best time of year to go to the GBR, Ayres Rock and Cairns???
I would like to dive/swim in the GBR but I know that there are jellybox fish in there at certain times of the year.
I will be in Oz for 1 year arriving beginning of March. Please advise me on where I should be at particular times in the year. The main thing I don't want to miss is NYE in Sydney, anything else goes!!
Hope you can help!!
