Well me and my girlfreind have just left India after 6 weeks and after all the prepations i made mentally before i went there im affraid nothing, i dont think! can prepare you for india we landed in dehli and travelled to kashmir to trek in srinigal , unfortunately my girlfreind is in hospital she got food poisning on the last minuite , it was an amazing experience and complete culture shock , though i can only say i met 2 or 3 honest people in my time there as the place is pretty much built on a sink or swim method most people seem to be trying to exploit you or ripp you off so prepare yourself, we went to kashmir despite all the troubles and found it the best place on our journey it was alot cleaner and less populated than other places and you can expereince a lot of nature there.
and i now well never underestimate the force of nature dehli reached 46 degrees and i was told not to go there at his time of year due to the rains and heat but i dident listen bad idea, so avoid it if possible is my advice as the smells can get really bad in the backstreets.

I agree with you on the culture shock and the extreme weather. Well, thats what makes up India apart from the beauty and the corruption.

Before I went to India, that was exactly the advise, that absolutely everybody who had already been there gave me.

Do you think you will get the similar experience as in kashmir when you in other parts of India as well?

Hello Northpole:)

Some parts of India are wealthier than others, so things would be a little different in those places. For example the standard of hygiene and the availablility of modern conveniences. But I think that most parts of India are a mind blowing experience, for Western tourists.

Excuse my terrible geography, but isnt Kashmir near the Pakistani, India border. I dont know if it is safe, to go there, at all. I have heard that sometimes people even go missing, when they travel in Kashmir.

Mel,

Kashmir is one of the most beautiful places on this earth... It is near the china--pakistan border. the condition has improved now a bit but still sometimes sporadic incidents do occur.

Noth Pole,

the hills of himachal pradesh, Leh and the southern part of india, u wont be bothered much. U can have a relatively hassle free experience.

These types of problems always arise in Kashmir. But that doesnt prevent travellers from visiting this wonderful piece of land.
