Which of these countries did you prefer?

Hard to compare, if you are looking to choose one, but I know my preference, having been to both.

For a "must see" site- there is no beating Angkor Wat. But overall I loved Laos-- I was there just over 1 month- there are not many "must sees", but there are some great temples (Wat Phu, Champasak, and quite a few in Luang Prabang), there is great trekking in the north near Luang Namtha, incredible waterfalls all over, beautiful natural rock formations, awesome scenery around Muong Ngoy/ and Nongkiew, loads of fun around Vang Vieng -- tubing, caves etc, Don Det is a great place to just chill out in a hammock for a few days ( or a week) by the Mekong, Phonsovan is really cool to see the Plain of Jars, and I still feel bad that I missed out "The Gibbon Experience " near Huay Xai which I have heard is a highlight of SE Asia.

You can't go wrong

I agree - I definitely preferred Laos as a country, it's beautiful and so laid back compared with most other countries in SE Asia. However Angkor is somewhere that shouldn't be missed on a trip to South East Asia. If you did want to squeeze Cambodia in and do Laos aswell, you could do Phnom Penh and Siem Reap/Angkor in 5 days.

I would rate Cambodia as more interesting; besides the amazing sights at Angkor, there are many more places/towns around the country worth seeing.
Laos, in my opinion, is more scenic and laid back. Very relaxing. Also better quality of local food, plus some very good and inexpensive restaurants serving international/French/Lao cuisine in Vientiane.
Both countries are worth visiting!
