i only moved to sydney 6 weeks ago myself and got a job and been sponsored.

weather at the mo is crap! always raining! temp is between 16-20 so its very nippy especially in the shade!

im told that august is the worst month of them all!

in sydney they can be quite strict in what you wear! i can only speak for the guys. in general the women here are quite pretty and look after themselves.

this place is also shit expensive. similar prices to dublin and london! but im told one can get by on the cheap! but then that would be called not enjoying yourself.

This winter has been very cold so far with some serious storms recently so make sure you're prepared for wind and rain!
Fortunately during the day the sky is often still blue and the sun shining so its not cold in a depressing way!

In terms of dressing for a night out, I think having a good thick black coat will be a safe bet and its versatile.
Jeans are also a safe bet.

On a freezing night you still get some women who bravely wear small tops or short dresses, but in general a coat is good (and a scarf), the pants/jeans tucked into boots is still going strong, leggings and/or boots with dresses.......I personally have been living in my flat black boots cause its comfortable to walk around in and it keeps you warm.

Its true that some bars and clubs can be quite strict on what guys wear (even haircuts!) but its generally much easier for girls.

Sydney isn't cheap but theres definitely ways to save.
On trains, there are travelpasses or day passes that allow for multiple travel on the same ticket --> www.cityrail.com

Bars all have a period of cheaper drinks after about 5pm.

You can get good food at an affordable price if you avoid the touristy areas (like The Rocks, Darling Harbour etc). There are heaps of sushi and thai food joints that are fast and cheap
