Travel Forums Asia Volunteer work, in Thailand

Hello Everyone:)

I noticed, that a lot has been said here, on this forum, about volunteering in Thailand being illegal, and the consequents of it.
Since I sometimes tell people where they can find voluntary work, I am concerned, about this. Please would somebody point me towards a news blog, on the internet, where I can read about it.

Mel

I found the answer, for anybody interested. Here is a copy and paste from http://www.thaivisa.com/work-permit/how-to-get-a-thai-work-permit.html

Thanks for the info Draggons. What a weird law that is. Surely when foreingers volunteer their skills and time, it is good for Thailand?

NOTE:

All aliens engaged in any kind of work in Thailand must hold a valid work permit, issued principally by the Department of Employment of the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare pursuant to the Alien Employment Act B.E. 2521 (A.D. 1978).

The term "work" is defined very broadly, covering both physical and mental activities, whether or not for wages or other remuneration. Working without a valid work permit even for a day is a criminal offense.

The validity period of a work permit is governed by the holder's immigration status, i.e. a work permit usually expires on the last day of the period of stay allowed by immigration officials as shown on the alien's visa. Aliens holding transit and tourist visas are not permitted to work.

Well Aoy, the link Draggons gave gives information about getting the work permit and what it costs. It just sucks, that volunteers have to pay for and go to the inconvenience of getting a work permit. Most/all of them are offering their services out of good will and generousity.

What is this phone number u give about? If u are promoting some service of your own, it is not allowed here. If u are not promoting yourself, would u give more details.

Mel, it's clearly a spam. In future, just click on the spam button. No questions needed.
